DAGUPAN CITY – A Dagupeña overseas worker was finally reunited with her family following her repatriation back home, after suffering mistreatment during her stint as an Overseas Filipino Worker in Dammam, Saudia Arabia for more than a year.
This, after her mother reached out to the OFW desk created by the city government through the Public Employment Service Office.
A resident of Barangay Bonuan Binloc, the 27-year old shared her experience overseas when she was feeling not well after repeatedly experiencing neck pain and difficulty in breathing.
During her first and only check-up in Dammam, initial findings showed issues in her thyroid gland which may have cancerous consequence. Her employer, however, refused to allow her to undergo further check-up and procedures when she was advised to be taken to a private hospital.
“Even when I really don’t feel well, I still had to work. Sometimes, I wouldn’t be allowed to rest or sleep until I finished all my responsibilities,” she added.
The mother disclosed how her worries for her daughter’s wellbeing compelled her to ask for help, saying: “It’s very difficult knowing that your daughter is far from home and needs medical attention.”
The latter was compelled to bring her daughter’s case to PESO Manager Jocelyn Siapno whose office exerted all efforts that made sure she comes home to receive the necessary medical attention.
After just two weeks of coordinating with various agencies including the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA), filing intake reports and real time case management, she was successfully brought home to reunite with her mother and children.
Mayor Belen T. Fernandez personally met with the repatriated worker to ensure that she receives proper medical attention and other forms of assistance.
Both the repatriated worker and her mother relayed how grateful they were to Fernandez and PESO Dagupan for the immediate action taken to address her case.
“Thank you po sa tulong niyo. Sa lahat lahat, hindi lang sa akin. Alam ko po marami po kayong natutulungan na gaya naming (mga OFW),” she said.
“I’m very thankful that my daughter was immediately brought home after two weeks. Malaking tulong ito sa amin. Nawalan ako ng pangamba dahil andito na yung anak ko,” the mother said.
Meanwhile, PESO Manager Joy Siapno renewed her call to distressed OFWs to contact her office anytime.
“PESO Dagupan is always here to help. Our Facebook page is always open. They can also contact us through our contact numbers. We advise our distressed OFWs to immediately tell their families about their problems so they can be reported to our office.”
